Area & Perimeter Video

Check out the video of your child and his classmates as they work on the perimeter and area lessons and activities.

Open House

This Thursday we will have Open House starting at 5:30. Please come to PTO's chili supper and then to our room to view all the work your child has done for Open House. The classrooms will be open from 5:30 until 7:00. We will not have a spelling test this Friday, so your child won't have to worry about studying that evening. Looking forward to seeing you.

Perimeter Practice

Today we practiced with help from "Adam Ant" how to find perimeter. Have your child practice finding the perimeter of some objects around the home. Remember: perimeter is the "rim" of the object. Add up all the sides.

Drug Education

The Hooker Police along with our superintendent, Dan Faulkner, were in our classroom to explain to our children the danger of using any kinds of drugs. They also presented t-shirts to the two top award winning students in our classroom for their posters in the Drug-free poster contest. Placing first was Tate Cathcart and second place winner was Piper Fowler. Honorable mention winner was Leslie Garcia. We are proud of all our students who entered their posters in the contest. Please spend some time explaining to your child the dangers of using any kind of drug including medication for other family members.

The fire fighters came to our classroom in October for Fire Prevention week. They did an excellent job of explaining to our class how to get our of a house if it was on fire and what to expect from the firemen. Matt Richardson put on the oxygen tank and face mask so the children could see what the firemen would look like. Please review your escape plan with your children so they will know where to meet outside your house. Practice your plan with all the members of your family.

Area and Perimeter

I've been trying to give links so your child could watch the videos on area and perimeter that we have seen. I've been unable to do that but will keep trying. Explain to your child that perimeter is the distance around a closed figure while area is the number of square units in a closed figure. More information to come.

Math Lesson

Our class will be spending several days studying about area and perimeter. We watched a video about area. Explain to your child that area is the measurement of the inside of a figure.
